The pheasants are two weeks old to day.   They can now fly up to six feet off the ground.  Today we placed the net half  way over the flight pen.

The close phaesant is a ring neak, but we do not know what kind the two dark ones are.  You can't really see it, but the two dark ones have red on ther heads and wings.

Pheasants in the Backyard

This is a picture of our pheasants. When we got them, we had 125.  They were so small and they had only their down.  After three days, their wings had feathers on them.  Now they are trying to fly out of the pen.  We have had them for five days now and we have had four die.  Notice the little yellow one, we wondered if it was a chicken.  It turned out to be a silver pheasant, unfortunately it was one of the little critters that died.

When we got them from the hatchery we had to pull them one at a time from the box and dip their beaks in the water.  They sometimes fail to find the water if you don't show them and then they will dehydrate and die.
This is us working on building our flight pen.  Notice we don't have the netting up yet.  Good things the birds won't need it for a few more days.  Our goal is to have it up by Thursday.
